Hi!

My name’s Harriet Waters; I’m a Digital Marketing Executive at First Internet.

How did you get here?

I took an interesting route into First Internet.  I did my undergraduate degree in Music and then worked for a couple of years in theatre, alongside which I picked up voluntary experience running the marketing for a local arts festival.  When this festival’s live programme was cancelled by COVID-19, I created a series of online and social media events for them and found ways to boost their digital marketing to replace the avenues lost to lockdown.  One of the people I worked with particularly closely happened to be a relative of FI’s very own Kat Rodway, who generously reached out with an invitation to join the SEO team!

What gets you out of bed in the morning?

The first thing I loved about working at FI was the chance to be back in an office.  After a stretch of furlough and some time working from home, it was incredible to join such an engaging, lively office. The whole team have been very welcoming and are always on hand to offer training and answer questions.  I am particularly grateful to my SEO colleagues, who made it so easy for me to learn the ropes and get stuck in when I started.

What have you been working on?

My first major task upon joining was to help implement the new client management system, a change which has streamlined the SEO team’s work and allowed us to give our clients even better value for time.  Since then, I’ve dedicated a lot of time to learning the technical aspects of SEO, whilst also taking on work in areas in which I’m already confident, such as content creation and social media.  It’s been great to get to know FI’s range of clients, and I’ve really enjoyed applying my skills in such diverse sectors.

What are the perks?

Within a short time at FI, I’d already been presented some brilliant opportunities.  In my first month, I accompanied our Social Media Executive, Ben Harrison, on a trip to the London Coffee Festival to meet with a new client and generate content for their social media accounts.  More recently, I was asked to attend Altitude X, a new AI summit hosted by our client Peak, to capture the event for FI’s own social media.  Since I joined only shortly after lockdown restrictions ended, it has also been fun to see the gradual reintroduction of various office traditions, from Star of the Month to team breakfasts and Secret Santa!

What’s Next?

I am looking forward to what the future brings and remain incredibly grateful to the FI managers for taking a chance on me and welcoming me into their family.
