We’re not the only SEO agency in Manchester, but we’ve been here the longest.
Since 1998, the same year Google was born, we’ve been building search strategies that hold up under real commercial pressure. Our digital strategists, developers and SEO consultants work as one joined-up team to support businesses across the North West and beyond. Our teams are strongly connected through digital strategy, so nothing falls into the gap between specialisms. No smoke, no mirrors. Just smart strategy and sharp execution, the kind that makes competitors wish they’d found us first.

Plenty of agencies across Manchester can talk SEO. Here’s what actually sets our work apart.
-
28 years in search
We’ve been doing this since 1998, the same year Google was born. That’s nearly three decades of watching algorithms, behaviours and platforms shift, and adapting strategy each time rather than chasing the latest shortcut.
-
One team, not three agencies in a trench coat
SEO strategists, content specialists and technical consultants work together on your account from day one, so nothing gets lost in translation. And when a technical fix is needed, on-page speed, structured data, a broken redirect, we have development support in-house to sort it, rather than waiting weeks on a separate web team.
-
Proof, not promises
51 page-one rankings for a legal client. A 240% lift in goal completions for construction specialists. Multi-million pound direct enquiries through ChatGPT for property acqusition specialists. We’d rather point to results than write another paragraph about “passion for SEO.”
-
Built for where search is heading
SEO isn’t just Google anymore. Our search strategies are built for B2B visibility across traditional rankings and AI-driven platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity, so you’re not left behind as the search landscape keeps shifting.
SEO services built into one visibility system
For Manchester businesses competing in a crowded search landscape, our team connects SEO pillars as one integrated strategy. That’s how modern search actually works, and how you end up visible whether someone’s typing into Google or asking ChatGPT.

Modern search is more purposeful than ever. Your customers make decisions based on the journey search engines take them. This leads them to an answer, a product or service, a comparison, a shortcut. If your website and content doesn’t match modern search behaviour across both traditional and AI channels, you lose the visibility and your competition remains on top.
Understanding the audience and intent behind a search is how an SEO agency can really help. There are four key flavours of search intent, and each one demands a different approach:
- Informational: The classic “how do I…” moment. From “how to change a tyre” to “what is EEAT”, these searches need clear, useful answers. This is where blogs, guides, resources, and FAQs help brands build visibility and trust long before a customer is ready to buy.
- Navigational: The digital sat-nav search. Think “Instagram login” or “BBC Weather”. Users already know where they want to go; they just need the fastest route. Strong brand visibility, technical SEO, and a well-structured website help ensure your audience can find you without friction.
- Transactional: This is where commercial intent is at its strongest. Searches such as “buy long sleeve gym tops” or “SEO agency Manchester pricing” signal that a decision is close. An effective SEO strategy ensures your key landing pages are visible, persuasive, and designed to convert.
- Commercial Investigation: The “nearly there” stage. Searches like “best laptops 2025” or “top CRM platforms” come from users weighing up options and looking for reasons to trust. This is where comparison content, reviews, case studies, and expert insights can help position your brand ahead of competitors.
Align your website with this journey and you stop guessing with SEO and start serving exactly what your audience is looking for. Search engines reward it, users respond to it, and your performance reflects it. Questions about SEO?
-
What is SEO and how does it work?
Search Engine Optimisation in a service that grows visibility in all forms of online search. The most common and popular of these is what we’d call organic search, in channels such as Google, where you’ll hear terms such as ranking i.e., how high up on the results page you are. A lot goes into making this happen, and it’s what we specialise in.
-
How long does SEO take to show results?
SEO is an investment, so we would expect SEO to take 6- 9 months before showing serious results. This can vary dramatically, however, and can be accelerated by putting extra resource into your project. If your website is already set up well, you can expect to start seeing results quicker. If you’re further behind the competition or starting from scratch, it may take a little longer before you see real growth.
Ultimately, SEO is a game of patience and consistency. As you continue doing the right things, you will see your traffic and website revenue increase. The important thing is to avoid making rash decisions and focus on making continual, incremental improvements initially.
-
How much does an SEO project cost?
Quite simply, it completely depends on the size of the task at hand.
Here at First Internet, we understand that every search and market is different, in order to get you where you want to be digitally we need to thoroughly assess factors such as; on-page SEO, technical SEO, backlink profile, core web vitals (Site-speed) and then conduct competitor analysis to help identify gaps to gain traction. The best place to start is with a quick audit, at which point we can recommend the resource needed to get your website growing.
If you’re in the market for SEO in Manchester, be wary of SEO agencies that offer out of the box solutions to gain higher visibility within the rankings as there is no, ‘One-size-fits-all’ solution to digital marketing.
-
Do I need to be based in Manchester?
Not at all, the beauty of digital marketing is that we can work with companies all over the country and internationally.
Whilst we do work with companies on Local SEO around the Manchester area, we’re able to support your website and business no matter where you’re based and you’ll receive the same service and professionalism as you would if we were working in the office with you.
-
What’s the most important factor to ranking highly on Google?
There are a number of important ranking factors for page one visibility on Google, and these will vary based on your current website status. Typically, an SEO project or service will consist of work on the technical setup of your website, improving content, acquiring links back to your website and making the user experience as smooth as possible.
-
Is SEO better than paying for ads?
With paid ads or PPC (pay-per-click), you’re paying every time someone clicks onto your ad in search, and once your budget has been depleted you will lose all visibility.
SEO is focused on ranking your website in search results organically, below the paid ads, where the majority of searchers tend to click when looking for a result. With SEO, you’re not paying for each click onto the website. So the question should be whether PPC or SEO is right for your digital goals.
In some industries, the CPC per keyword is extremely high, so it simply wouldn’t be cost-effective to pay £20, for example, per website visitor. PPC can afford better targeting for your ads, deciding exactly what keywords you want to appear for, where they should appear and who they appear to which is extremely useful especially for those looking to market time-sensitive promotions.
On the flipside with SEO and appearing on the organic listings you’re granted far more scope with the keywords you could potentially be found for if Google deems you relevant enough.
As 15% of searches made on Google per day are completely new, SEO can help your product/service to appear in searches that you never knew could be important for your business.
SEO and PPC isn’t a case of either / or, many companies utilise both to maximise the visibility of their website.
-
Do keywords still matter for SEO
Yes, but the approach has become less and less ‘simple’ over the years and as search engines become more intelligent. Keywords now must be used naturally and semantically in a context that makes sense for the search you want to target. This means the old days of ‘keyword stuffing’ and other blackhat SEO techniques are long gone.
-
Is SEO going to be replaced by AI?
In a simple sense, AI has simply introduced a new channel for users to find their answers, products or services. This means some nuances of SEO will change, with terms coined such as GEO, which put more emphasis on certain parts of existing SEO strategy. We’re proud to have consistently perfected the fundamentals of SEO, which remain the strongest ranking factor in 2026 and beyond.
-
What is on-page optimisation in SEO?
On-page SEO encompasses all the individual amendments that need to be made in order to make the individual web page as search engine friendly as possible.
This includes specifying to Google and other search engines what you want to be found for by including keywords in your website’s metadata such as ‘Title tags’,‘H1 tags’ and ‘Alt tags.’
The page’s content, URL and crawler accessibility also factor into on-page search engine optimisation among a host of other factors.
-
Don’t I just need backlinks?
Acquisition of links pointing back to your website is called link-building, and the subsequent result is a ‘back-link’. This is what’s known as off-page SEO and certainly is an important factor for ranking highly.
Link building has a chequered past in the industry, with several underhanded tactics int he early days subsequently squashed by algorithm updates. SEO professionals have come a long way since then, and off-page efforts are much more tactical. The strategy and effort to acquire good quality backlinks can be quite demanding (hence many people try to shortcut here), so we always recommend working on off-page SEO as a supplementary project. We’re also able to offer this service as ad-hoc and according to your budgets.
Good quality links are an important piece of the puzzle, but without the other pieces, your project won’t be built properly.
