Google marked the beginning of a new decade in the Google way by spelling its name using roman numerals; GMMXI. By clicking the logo users were taken to a results page for the search term ‘New Years Eve.’
What was noticeable about the featured page was that the main focus of the results was real-time news. It is a clear message showing how much search and social networking have become an intrinsic part our culture over the past few years. Twitter ads are being displayed in the same way as regular ads within the real-time feeds. The partnership between Twitter and Google initially began in November and is the first time which Google has allowed another ad network to use them as an advertising platform.
Any revenue generated is divided on a 50/50 basis between Google and Twitter, which should be a welcome deal for Twitter going by how much traffic clicks the Google logo. 2011 has been named as the year of Facebook after its successful ad network, but with the internet giant, Google, going into partnership with Twitter, 2012 could well belongs to them. We will have to wait and see what new surprises get uncovered this year!
