Outlook Express 6: Setting up your email account
- Start Outlook Express 6.
- Choose Accounts from the Tools menu. The Internet Accounts window will open.
- Click the Mail tab. This will show you any e-mail accounts that are currently set up in Outlook Express.Click the Add button. A menu will pop up: choose Mail.

- The Internet Connection wizard will appear to guide you through a series of configuration steps for the e-mail address you want to add. The Your Name screen will appear first, enter your name as you want it to appear in e-mails and click Next.
- The Internet E-mail Address screen will appear. Enter your new e-mail address and then click Next.
- The E-Mail Server Names screen will appear. Enter the information you were sent regarding Incoming mail server and Outgoing Mail Server.

- Click Next and the Internet Mail Logon screen will appear. Enter into this the Account Name and Password details you were sent. It is essential you enter the exact details you were given, paying due attention to the use of cAsE.

- Clicking Next will bring up the congratulations window, informing you the account has been successfully created. Click Finish.
- Next we must tell Outlook Express to authenticate when sending emails through this account – otherwise emails cannot be sent. In the Internet Accounts window (which should still be visible after creating a new account otherwise see Step 2) select the new account you have created (at the bottom of the list of accounts) and click Properties.
- A new Properties window will appear, select the Servers tab at the top. Click the My server requires Authentication checkbox.

- Click OK to close the window, and the process is complete.
Troubleshooting
- The user and password are both case-sensitve, so ensure you have entered them paying attention to whether they were in capitals or not.
- If you do not select to authenticate – you will not be able to send emails using this account. Authentication allows us to ensure only our customers can use this service.
- Older versions of Outlook Express will have slightly different ways of going about this process, but they will be essentially the same to the one described here.
